Salvadoran National Assembly Members Visit USS Boxer

On May 28, ten members of El Salvador’s National Assembly, along with their alternates and staff, visited the USS Boxer, is anchored near Acajutla, El Salvador.  The USS Boxer is an aircraft carrier with engineering and medical capabilities that is providing humanitarian assistance to Salvadorans during a two-week visit to El Salvador. 

Captain Peter K. Dallman, Commander of Operation Continuing Promise 2008, and Captain Matthew J. McCloskey, Commanding Officer of the USS Boxer, briefed the Salvadoran dignitaries on the ship’s work in El Salvador.  The Assembly members flew to the Boxer aboard a US military helicopter and the toured the flight deck, hangars, bridge and medical facilities. 

During their visit, the Salvadoran representatives spoke with a group of patients who were receiving medical attention aboard the vessel.  The Embassy’s Political Counselor and Press Officer accompanied them on board.
