Patriot’s Day, September 11th Remembered

September 11, 2008

U.S. Ambassador Charles L. Glazer and the employees and family members of the United States Embassy in San Salvador gathered Thursday in a ceremony to remember the nearly 3,000 victims of the September 11th terror attacks against the United States.  Ambassador Glazer delivered remarks including President Bush’s declaration of September 11, 2008 as “Patriot’s Day”, in recognition of the great tragedy of that day and the heroism of those involved in the rescue efforts.

Following the Ambassador’s statement, the Marine Guard Detachment lowered the flag to half staff  and a minute of silence was observed for those killed in the attacks.   Zarmina Rodriguez gave an emotional rendition of Amazing Grace to end the ceremony.

Prior to the anniversary President Bush issued a Proclamation declaring Friday, September 5th through Sunday, September 7th as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance.  In the Proclamation President Bush declared, “Our Nation honors the brave citizens, service members, police officers, and firefighters who heroically responded in the face of terror.”
