As part of ongoing joint humanitarian exercises conducted with the participation of U.S. military personnel and El Salvador, the military group of the United States Embassy, with support from medical personnel from Soto Cano Base in Honduras, opened a medical exercise in San Fernando, Chalatenango on August 25th.

This humanitarian assistance exercise, made possible through the close collaboration of the United States government and Salvadoran military 4th Infantry Brigade, the SIBASI local health unit, Joint Task Force Bravo and Embassy staff, will benefit people from the municipality of San Fernando, Chalatenango with an estimated population of 2,800.

General medicine and dental are some of the services that the mission will be carrying. Talks on preventive medicine, including topics such as H1-N1 influenza prevention and the use of the free vitamins and medicines that will be distributed will be given.

This is the first of five medical readiness exercises that will bring assistance to the people of Chalatenango. Other communities that will benefit from this type of assistance are Nombre de Jesus, San Antonio de La Cruz, San Jose Canacasque and Potonico, all in Chalatenango. The medical teams will conclude their assistance efforts next September 19.
