Itinerant Library Arrives in Suchitoto
On Friday, August 28, itinerant library Antonia Portillo de Galindo was inaugurated in the city of Suchitoto, 29 miles East of San Salvador. Local authorities, along with Embassy and Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano representatives were present for the inauguration which was also attended by 125 Suchitoto students and neighbors.
This is the second itinerant library born from a joint project between the US Embassy and the Centro Cultural Salvadoreño Americano. It was named Antonia Portillo de Galindo after a great Salvadoran teacher who was also a Minister of Education.
The first itinerant library is called Bernardo Melero, named after one of the Embassy’s Information Resource Center directors. The libraries have already visited 25 cities and towns in El Salvador. In each place they are staged in the Casa de la Cultura where they can be visited by students and local population. The libraries carry books with information on History, Geography, Art and English Literature.
