On September 11, 2009, San Salvador Embassy community gathered in front of the flag pole to observe Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance, and remember the victims of the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, eight years ago.

During the ceremony, Charge d’Affaires Robert Blau read President Obama’s proclamation for Patriot Day. The Marine Color Guard presented the colors, while a moment of silence was observed.  The moment of silence was broken by U.S. violinist Gareth Johnson playing “Amazing Grace”.  Gareth Johnson is in San Salvador at the invitation of the Embassy to be the featured soloist in concerts with the Salvadoran Youth Symphony.
