Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Discusses Region
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State (DAS) for Western Hemisphere Affairs Bisa Williams traveled to El Salvador to meet with the Salvadoran Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez to discuss the current crisis in Honduras.
During her brief visit to El Salvador, DAS Williams appeared with Charge d’ Affaires Robert Blau on the Megavision Channel 21 political interview program “Dialogo con Ernesto Lopez” on September 16. Among the issues DAS Williams discussed was the crisis in Honduras and the rational for the actions the United States government has taken in regards to the de facto Honduran government. She also expressed the U.S. government’s concern about Venezuela’s plans to purchase arms from Russia. DAS Williams and Charge Blau also discussed the wide range of assistance the United States is providing to El Salvador through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the U.S. Agency for International Development, and also spoke about law enforcement cooperation, humanitarian assistance and educational programs and scholarships.
DAS Williams also met with other government officials and with members of the business community before departing the country.
