INTERPOL representatives take Villatoro into custody at the El Salvador International Airport.

On, October 20, authorities from the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice handed Salvadoran fugitive Julio Eduardo Villatoro Monteagudo to authorities of El Salvador.  Villatoro is wanted by Salvadoran justice for defrauding the national economy.

The fugitive arrived in El Salvador on a commercial flight coming from Miami, Florida and was escorted by a representative of the Homeland Security Department, DHS.

“The arrival of Mr. Villatoro Monteagudo to El Salvador and his surrender to the Government of El Salvador  demonstrates that the U.S. upholds its treaty obligations”, said Charge d’Affaires Robert Blau.

Villatoro Monteagudo was handed over to Salvadoran representatives of the International Police (INTERPOL). Attorney General Romeo Benjamin Barahona was also present at the airport and thanked the U.S. authorities for their perseverance and hard work in obtaining Villatoro’s extradition.

There is one pending extradition case requested by the U.S. government. The USG has been waiting for nearly two years for the extradition of José Marvin Martínez. The United States is awaiting a positive resolution from Salvadoran authorities.
