Charge d'Affaires, Robert I. Blau and Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes, awarded 918 scholarships to students from the 94 municipalities of the Northern Zone of El Salvador in a ceremony as part of the Human Development program of the Millennium Challenge Corporation implementing partner, FOMILENIO.  The ceremony took place at the National Institute July 14, 1875 in San Francisco Gotera, Morazan.

The scholarships were given to students from 17 of the 20 institutes of the Northern Zone that benefit from FOMILENIO’s programs, and include specialization of general middle schools in areas such as: Milk Processing Dairy Products, Agro-Forestry, Promoter Community, or Solid Waste Management, among others. This will enable the growth of each micro-region, depending on their needs, and encourage new areas of development. The middle school plan will benefit approximately 3,600 students from 94 municipalities comprising the Northern Zone.

Salvadoran First Lady and Secretary of Social Inclusion, Vanda Pignato, Presidential Chief of Staff and Chairman Board of Directors FOMILENIO Alex Segovia, Vice Minister of Education and Science and Technology, Dr. Erlinda Handal, Fomilenio’s Executive Director, Jose Angel Quiros, Country Resident Director of the MCC, Vince Ruddy; and Departmental Governors and Mayors of the Northern Zone were also present.
