U.S. to Provide $250,000 in Support of Renewable Energy

Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Jose Fernandez, Salvadoran Minister of Economy Hector Dada Hirezi, and Charge d'Affaires Robert Blau.

Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs, Jose Fernandez announced that the US will provide $250,000 to support the development of renewable energy of in El Salvador.

Since 2008, the US, in cooperation with Brazil, the Organization of American States and the Interamerican Development Bank has provided assistance to El Salvador in this area, specifically with regard to biofuel as an alternative for energy generation.

The announcement was made in conjunction with a visit by Assistant Secretary Fernandez on Minister of Economy Hector Dada Hirezi. 
Assistant Secretary Fernandez also mentioned solar power as an attractive power source for El Salvador.  In order to explore this option further, the Salvadoran National Energy Council has been invited to travel this summer to visit a solar energy plant in Florida.
