U.S. Contributions After Tropical Depression 12-E

To date, various U.S. government agencies have contributed a total of $2,356,188 in assistance to the government and people of El Salvador following the devastating rains that drenched the country from October 10-20, 2011.  Below is an itemized list of U.S. assistance:

Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)
Description: MCC, through its Salvadoran implementing partner, FOMILENIO, accelerated the distribution of funds from the existing compact to address losses in agricultural production in the country’s Northern Zone.  
Amount: $1,131,000

Medical Equipment and Materials
Description: At the request of the Ministry of Health, USAID provided medical supplies and equipment that included nebulizers, thermometers, pediatric oximetry sensors, disposable diapers, gloves, surgical tape, alcohol, antiseptics and endotracheal tubes.
Amount: $353,853

USAID Assistance Plane
Description: A cargo plane chartered by USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) arrived in El Salvador on October 23 carrying more than 47 tons of emergency supplies, including potable water containers, blankets, hygiene kits and kitchen sets.
Amount: $269,231

Transitional Shelter Assistance
Description: USAID/OFDA provided additional funds through WorldVision fpr transitional shelter assistance.
Amount: $238,801

Rehabilitation of Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
Description: USAID/OFDA also provided funds through Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Usulután to improve access to safe drinking water and to promote proper sanitation and hygiene practices. CRS will construct flood-resistant wells, distribute hygiene kits, conduct community-based WASH (water,sanitation and hygiene) training, demonstrate proper latrine rehabilitation, and create a field guide for flood-resistant well construction and cleaning in coordination with the Salvadoran Civil Protection Agency and the Ministry of Health.

Fuel
Description: This donation from USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) provided jet, boat and truck fuel for Salvadoran Air Force helicopters and Navy boats, as well as funding for transportation and logistical support

Kitchen Sets
Description: 1,021 kitchen sets for emergency shelters
Amount: $47,000

School Supplies and Educational Activities
Description: USAID’s education office in El Salvador partnered with local implementing agencies to provide School supplies and educational activities for children in 18 government shelters.
Amount: $20,000

Blankets, mattresses, diapers, and hygiene products
Description: The U.S. Military Group in El Salvador donated new supplies of blankets, mattresses, diapers, and hygiene products.
Amount: $20,000

Additional hygiene kits
Description: The U.S. Military Group purchased additional personal hygiene articles needed at shelters on the local market.
Amount: $10,000

Construction Materials
Description: The U.S. Military Group also purchased construction materials on the local market for use by affected citizens in repairing houses and building temporary shelters.
Amount: $10,000

Food, water, mattresses and blankets
Description: USAID, through its implementing partners Save the Children and Lutheran world Relief, delivered food, water, mattresses and blankets to shelters in San Pedro Masahuat and four municipalities in San Vicente.
Amount: $7,500

Additional Fuel
Description: USAID/OFDA provided additional fuel for Civil Protection Service emergency vehicles.
Amount: $3,000
