Swift Seabees Finish School
Ten days after they began their work, a group of U.S. Navy Seabee and U.S. Marine detachment from Swift finished minor renovations at the Gregorio Alvarez Núñez School in Ampalita, La Unión. The 10-day construction project included fencing, minor plumbing and electrical maintenance, and other small repairs. The engineers will now move and begin a similar project at another school in La Union.
The engineering component is just one of the many projects that the groups of US military members are carrying out in El Salvador since their arrival on December 1. They are also carrying out workshops on leadership as well as medical exercises where doctors exchange experiences. The mission comes to an end next December 22.
The vessel is also distributing donated goods for Project Handclasp, as part of Southern Partnership Station (SPS 12) 2012. The goods consisted of medical supplies and food which will be distributed throughout the country. Project Handclasp is a U.S. Navy program that accepts and transports educational, humanitarian and goodwill material donated by America's private sector on a space-available basis aboard U.S. Navy ships for distribution to foreign nation recipients.
Southern Partnership Station is an annual U.S Southern Command deployment to the Caribbean, Central and South Americas. The visits are part of a continuing effort to build partnership and security within the Americas.
