Arrival Statement of Ambassador Charles Glazer
Ambassador Speech
January 25, 2007
It is my great honor to have been selected by President Bush to be the U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. I am similarly honored that the U.S. Congress supported that decision and that President Saca accepted my nomination. I look forward to building on Ambassador Barclay’s achievement in the years ahead.
El Salvador has won worldwide recognition for the incredible progress it has made since the signing of the peace accords in 1992. El Salvador’s leadership in the region is evident, and our ongoing commitment to supporting El Salvador is clear. We are in the initial stages of providing more than 460 million dollars to help alleviate poverty and develop the northern region of El Salvador. Together with CAFTA and our other joint efforts, we are creating historic opportunities for the entire country.
Our two countries share many common goals and an excellent bilateral relationship. As I begin my work here, I pledge to President Saca and the people of El Salvador that I will strive to maintain our strong relationship and to help bring the rewards of democracy, peace, and prosperity to this great nation.
Muchas gracias.
