Embassy Town Hall

On Wednesday February 27th, 2008 the Embassy had the honor of hosting American Citizens who are currently living in El Salvador for a Town Hall meeting with Ambassador Charles Glazer.   The event drew over two hundred people.  Each section of the Embassy was represented and participants were able to gain a greater understanding of what the American Embassy does in El Salvador and how we assist American Citizens who are visiting or living here.  The Ambassador also spoke and took questions from the audience.  We would like to thank everyone who attended for making this event a great success.

Recording Births of American Children Born Abroad

Having a child while overseas can present certain problems.  If you have a child who has been born while you are living abroad it is important to register the child with an American Embassy or Consulate as soon as possible.  By taking the appropriate steps, American Citizens can obtain Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA).  This document is considered an American Citizenship document and is needed to apply for an American Passport.  CRBAs can be prepared at any American Embassy or Consulate until the child reaches the age of 18.  For the child to qualify, the following documents need to be provided: 1) A local birth certificate; 2) Evidence of the parent(s)’ US citizenship; (3) Evidence of the parents’ marriage (if applicable) and (4) affidavits of parent(s) residence and physical presence in the United States.    Please visit our website for more information.

April 15th Tax Deadline

April 15th is fast approaching.  Remember as an American Citizen, you may need to file taxes. Visit the official U.S. Government website for tax information www.irs.gov.  The American Embassy in San Salvador does have limited quantities of tax forms, however, we are unable to provide individual assistance.

Voting 2008

US citizens 18 years or older who are or will be residing outside the United States may be able to vote by absentee ballot in any election for local, state, or federal office.  Get more information by visiting the official U.S. Government website for overseas absentee www.fvap.gov
